The National Regional Data Consortium
- or simply The Data Consortium - has been sparked by mutual interests, all seeking a highest common accord around the use of existing and emerging information supplied by government, industry, academia, and third-party providers.

The challenge facing most end-users of databases and information tools today is the overwhelming sense that there is too much from which to choose, and not enough simplification of the access, management, and reporting. In the past, data and information has been driven by simple sets of questions (e.g. federal reporting on budget expenditures to prevent waste, fraud and abuse). However, as economic and societal transformation demands even greater knowledge, the questions have not changed nor have the metrics on performance, outcomes, results.

The Data Consortium is not a source of repackaged records and databases. Rather, we have challenged ourselves to examine what our clients demand, want, and need to be more effective in their tasks, duties, responsibilities. And we in turn have asked hundreds of end-users across the Nation and in over 30 different engagement-projects a few simple questions: What knowledge is missing for you and your colleagues to be more successful? What information would provide the most critical intelligence on which to make decisions? What do you not know now that you must know immediately?
